What is a settlement agreement?

A settlement...

or compromise agreement is a legally binding agreement between an employer and employee to end employment, settle a claim, or refrain from instituting or continuing with a legal claim in relation to an issue arising out of employment or its termination.

Peace of mind

It gives the employer the comfort of knowing an employee will not take any further legal action in relation to any dispute and may therefore lead to a move favourable package.


Release

It will give you the comfort of knowing that your employer is legally obliged to pay you the settlement sum agreed and (if relevant) may release you from your obligations or restriction contained within a contract of employment.

Independent advice

You are required to take independent advice on the terms and effect of a settlement agreement before it will be considered legally binding and complete.

I joined YVA in July 2010 having spent over 14 years with a city practice. I became a partner in April 2013. I am an experienced litigator both in the High Court and County Court with diverse knowledge and experience in commercial and property litigation, Landlord and Tenant disputes including service charge disputes and commercial lease renewals, obtaining Freezing Injunctions, search and Seizure Orders, TOLATA claims, partnership disputes, contract disputes and negligence claims. My practise extends to employment law advising on claims for unfair dismissal, discrimination, harassment and redundancy and have successfully represented both employers and employees in cases before the employment tribunal. I also have vast experience in both commercial and residential property transactions as well as company acquisitions including the purchase of Luton Town Football Club. Away from the office once a keen sportsman I am now resigned in my latter years to being a spectator.
